After 11 Glen Ellyn plan commission hearings and two village board meetings, village trustees unanimously gave approval Monday to a controversial proposal to install lights at a Glenbard West High School practice field. College of DuPage and Glen Ellyn officials appeared poised to end a long-running dispute about whether the college can install electronic signs on campus.

But a last-minute change to a proposed intergovernmental agreement by the village has both sides pointing fingers, suggesting they could be back to square one.

The village had previously argued that the college’s signs violated village code. But under the deal, the college would be allowed to keep the existing signs and install five new ones. New signs larger than 200 feet would require discussions with the village.

Three candidates for Glen Ellyn village manager told residents what they would bring to the village during a town hall-style forum Tuesday.

A village-hired search firm has gathered 82 applications for the position since January, and village trustees met with the top six candidates last week. They narrowed the list down to three, and Tuesday was the first time the public had a chance to question the job seekers.

On Monday the Village Board approved cuts in Special Programs Fund (SPF).

We wanted to clarify how these cuts fit into the broader budget issues and the proposed sales tax increase. According to village manager Steve Jones, these cuts are unrelated to the proposed Home Rule Sales Tax (HRST) increase and the current General Fund budget deficit.

GEL NEWS: Glen Ellyn Village Board Approves Montessori School Move

Diamante Montessori School Plan

After hearing public comment and deliberation, the Glen Ellyn Village Board last night approved plans for the Diamonte Montessori school to relocate from St Marks Church to the vacant building and property located at 625 Hillside Ave, the former location of Christ Church.

The new location for the school is at the corner of Park Boulevard and Hillside Avenue, mostly a residential neighborhood filled with single-family homes.

GEL SHARE: Home Rule Sales Tax Decision to be Made on March 30

Last Tuesday, Village officials agreed to change the final read of the proposed Home Rule Sales Tax from Monday, March 23 to Monday, March 30 to accommodate one trustee who will be absent at the March 23rd meeting.

The Village Board is interested in having all elected officials participate in the vote on the home rule sales tax. Since one Trustee was going to be absent from the March 23 meeting, Village President Vicky Hase publicly asked Trustees at the workshop meeting of March 16 if they were available for a March 30 meeting. All trustees present indicated they were available.
