GEL PEOPLE: Glen Ellyn Author Releases Reflective Read

Cabin Fever Book Cover

About Cabin Fever

Try to imagine Thoreau married, with a job, three kids, and a minivan. This is the serious yet irreverent sensibility that suffuses Cabin Fever, as the author seeks to apply the hermit-philosopher’s insights to a busy modern life.

Tom Montgomery Fate lives in Glen Ellyn, where he is a husband, father, professor, and active member of his community. He also lives in a cabin built with the help of friends in the Michigan woods, where he walks by the river, chops wood, and reads Thoreau by candle light.

GEL SHARE: Memorial Field Lights Take Step Forward in Glen Ellyn

A controversial plan to install lights at Glenbard West High School’s Memorial Field in Glen Ellyn has moved a step closer to reality.

The Glenbard High School District 87 board voted 5-2 Monday to send a variance application to the village to clear the way for the lights.

The move follows a series of contentious meetings that began in February in which community members, parents, students and coaches on both sides of the issue sparred over the proposal’s merits.
