GEL SHARE: Glenbard West football player dies from crash injuries

One of the two Glenbard West High School football players injured in a car crash in Glen Ellyn last week died Thursday from his injuries.

Seventeen-year-old Pierre Washington-Steel was the driver of the 2008 Ford Fusion that crashed into a utility pole on Swift Road in Glen Ellyn Friday evening. He died at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Thursday morning.

Demarco Whitley, a junior, a passenger with Washington-Steel had to be pulled from the vehicle and remains in serious condition.

GEL SHARE: Two Glenbard West players seriously hurt in crash

Two Glenbard West High School students were clinging to life in critical condition late Sunday following a Friday night crash.

Senior Pierre Washington-Steel and junior Demarco Whitley, both running backs on the football team, were seriously injured in a one-car crash just before 8 p.m. Friday on Swift Road north of St. Charles Road in Glen Ellyn.

Within the next day or two, Katie Visco will complete a cross country 3,200 mile journey - the youngest female to run across America.

She began running in 7th grade at Hadley Junior High and ran cross country and track all 4 years at West, and was captain Senior year. Visco says running changed her life.

A pregnant teen turns life around - Dora Garcia's mother was a Mexican factory worker who only completed the fourth grade. She immigrated north to Chicago while seven months pregnant so her daughter could be born an American.
