The District 87 Board of Education met Monday night. It was the final meeting for Board members David Brown, Lorraine Schuller and Kathy Schmidt. A video homage was presented with encomiums from staff to each departing Board member.

In addition to farewell acknowledgement, there was serious business at hand.

GEL News: Glen Ellyn Paramedic & Ambulance Service Impact on Village Budget

Glen Ellyn Village Board voted to approve the purchase of 2 ambulances, a 5-year contract for paramedics supplied by PSSI in previous board meetings. They are currently reviewing contract options from 3 different billing companies. An analysis of the financial numbers that drove the Village to begin supplying their own paramedics and ambulances is outlined below.

GEL NEWS: Stimulus Money Benefits Park Blvd Road Project

Glen Ellyn is expected to receive $775,000 of U.S. Stimulus funds (from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 totalling $787 billion). The village will use the funds to renovate a mile-long stretch of South Park Boulevard.

The project upgrades Park Boulevard between Roosevelt Road and Raintree Drive which includes asphalt resurfacing, new lane lines and reflectors, and sidewalk ramps. The Village plans to start construction in spring 2010.

GEL NEWS: Village Board Passes Contract for Paramedic Services

On Monday, April 13, 2009, the Glen Ellyn Village Board approved a contract with PSSI by a vote of 4-2.

PSSI is the company that will begin providing paramedic services to Glen Ellyn residents. The contract includes four paramedics for each 24 hour shift so that Glen Ellyn can staff two 24 hour ambulances. Paramedics will work one 24 hour shift, then be off-duty for 48 hours.

Two paramedics will be housed at each fire department station in Glen Ellyn. Work on the sleeping areas has begun at both locations.

With the State and Federal Tax Return deadline fast approaching Wednesday, April 15, GEL is exploring where our money goes with respect to our federal and state government.

Today, Glen Ellyn celebrates Tax Freedom Day®, the day of the year which represents the percentage of our annual income that is given to our federal government (presuming we are fully employed throughout the year!).

Esposito, 41, from Wheaton, a former Community Bank - Wheaton/Glen Ellyn banker is facing a 30-count criminal indictment alleging she pilfered more than $100,000 from elderly customers who rarely checked their statements because they trusted her. ~ Daily Herald

The results won't be certified for 2 weeks until all overseas and military votes have been compiled with precinct totals.
