Community Consolidated School District 89 is a comprehensive pre-K-8 public school district serving students and residents from the southern portions of Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lombard. District 89 is bordered roughly by Finley Road on the east, President Street on the west, Roosevelt Road on the north and I-88 on the south.

GEL SHARE: Dupage Republican Party Head Randy Remey Guilty of DUI

The head of the DuPage County Republican Party pleaded guilty Monday to a DUI charge stemming from an August drunken driving arrest.

State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream) was sentenced to one year of court supervision and fined $1,750, Carol Stream Police Chief Kevin Orr said. Ramey also was ordered to undergo counseling, perform 100 hours of community service and attend a victim impact panel.

As long-time residents and active volunteers in our Village, we would like to express our concern about District 87 plans to install 6 and 7-story light towers on the Glenbard West campus in the heart of our town.  We believe that the potential harm to the quality of life in the community is not an acceptable trade-off for the relatively small percentage of student athletes actually able to use night lighting for spring and fall extra-curricular activities at Memorial Park.

Glen Ellyn’s village president and board have narrowed down a list of 82 candidates for the open village manager’s position to one.

Mark Franz, the current village manager of Homewood, has been chosen to oversee day-to-day operations of village government in Glen Ellyn, following the board’s 5-0 approval of an employment agreement on Monday.

A village-hired search firm began seeking applications for the position in January, after Steve Jones had stepped down from the position two months before.

A former member and longtime treasurer of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company has been accused of stealing $260,000 from the fire company and using the money for personal expenses and to support his private business, authorities said Friday.

David Garmoe, 54, of the 600 block of Prairie Avenue in Glen Ellyn, was arrested Friday and charged with eight counts of theft, two counts of forgery, two counts of continuing a financial crimes enterprise, money laundering and financial institution fraud, Glen Ellyn Police Chief Phil Norton said.
