Sarah Warren, a 15-year-old speed skater from Willowbrook, will be representing the United States in the short-track speed skating competition at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria. GEL SHARE: District 87 makes concessions on Memorial Field lights

In response to community concerns, Glenbard High School District 87 officials say they're making concessions as part of their plan to install lights at Memorial Field in Glen Ellyn. But opponents of the plan, which calls for installation of four 70-foot and two 60-foot light poles at the Glenbard West practice field, aren't entirely happy with the surprise.

As long-time residents and active volunteers in our Village, we would like to express our concern about District 87 plans to install 6 and 7-story light towers on the Glenbard West campus in the heart of our town.  We believe that the potential harm to the quality of life in the community is not an acceptable trade-off for the relatively small percentage of student athletes actually able to use night lighting for spring and fall extra-curricular activities at Memorial Park.

GEL SHARE: Glen Ellyn Park District Cuts Costs

A new majority of Glen Ellyn Park District board commissioners wasted no time Tuesday implementing measures intended to emphasize fiscal restraint.

It was the first board meeting with newly elected Commissioners Richard Dunn, Kathy Cornell and Gary Mayo, who ousted 12-year incumbent Ed Hess in the April election. They were endorsed by current Commissioners Melissa Creech, Jay Kinzler and Julia Nephew, who ran together as a slate two years before.

The Village of Glen Ellyn announces that Manor Woods will reopen to the public on Saturday, May 7.

To celebrate the reopening of the site, the Village is hosting a reopening event at 10am on Saturday, May 7 at the intersection of Brandon Avenue and Illinois Street in Glen Ellyn, just south of Lincoln School and west of Sunset Park.

Please join the Village and Boy Scout Pack 52 for an Arbor Day celebration at the same location at 10:15am for the planting of a tree.

Meghan Malaney Plays Wheel of Fortune

Meghan Malaney of Glen Ellyn, IL, will be a contestant on “Wheel of Fortune” on Thursday, March 24, 2011.

Meghan is a big fan of “Wheel” and has been watching the show since she was a child. She works as an account manager and volunteers for the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust in her free time.

Originally from River Falls, WI, Meghan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and loves all Wisconsin sports. She plans to use her winnings to take a trip to visit her best friend in Ireland. Meghan tried out to be a contestant in Chicago, IL.

Glen Ellyn Eagle Scouts Frank Modruson, Philip Woods, Braeden Stanley and Andrew Radon

Three Fires Council Troop 41 is proud to announce that Frank Modruson, Andrew Radon, Braeden Stanley and Philip Woods earned their Eagle Scout rank in November 2010. Only 2% of all Boy Scouts achieve the Eagle rank, the highest rank in Scouting. There will be a ceremony on March 19 at the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn to commemorate their outstanding achievement.
