Dear Editor:

As long-time residents and active volunteers in our Village, we would like to express our concern about District 87 plans to install 6 and 7-story light towers on the Glenbard West campus in the heart of our town.  We believe that the potential harm to the quality of life in the community is not an acceptable trade-off for the relatively small percentage of student athletes actually able to use night lighting for spring and fall extra-curricular activities at Memorial Park.

College of DuPage Sign

June 21, 2010

Last week, the Village of Glen Ellyn sent a city inspector to threaten our contractors with citations if they continued to erect new electronic signs replacing older ones damaged by weather and time in the same locations. This was unfortunate, as we need these signs to communicate with the more than 30,000 students on our campus every semester.

GEL SHARE: COD seeks de-annexation from Glen Ellyn over tabled agreement

College of DuPage President Robert L. Breuder with his wife Wendy

College of DuPage officials announced that they will pursue de-annexation from the village of Glen Ellyn after the Village Board voted Monday night to table an intergovernmental agreement previously reached by both parties on April 19.

The COD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the agreement at its April 28 meeting. COD President Robert L. Breuder informed Village President Mark Pfefferman in an April 29 communication that failure by the village to act on the agreement would result in COD pursuing de-annexation.

Trustee Peter Cooper

OPEN LETTER FROM VILLAGE OF GLEN ELLYN TRUSTEE PETER COOPER

Dear Friends:

It is almost precisely two years since I took my oath of office on becoming a Village Trustee for the Village of Glen Ellyn. During that time, I have tried to never lose sight of my sacred obligation to protect your trust and to pursue the best interests of our Village and its citizens. The work has frequently been hard and occasionally tedious, but it has almost always been rewarding.

It was an all around bad day for Metra West Line commuters Friday as two unrelated incidents delayed morning and evening rush hour train service.

On Friday morning, a man was struck and killed about 6:45 a.m. by outbound train #15 near the intersection of Kilbourn Avenue and Kinzie Street, Metra Spokesman Tom Miller said.

The incident halted Metra trains on the Union Pacific/West line. While Metra service announcements in Glen Ellyn at 7:35a.m. indicated uncertain delay times and an indefinite stoppage, Metra trains were moving as of 7:50 a.m., Miller said.
