GEL SHARE: Home Rule Sales Tax Decision to be Made on March 30

Last Tuesday, Village officials agreed to change the final read of the proposed Home Rule Sales Tax from Monday, March 23 to Monday, March 30 to accommodate one trustee who will be absent at the March 23rd meeting.

The Village Board is interested in having all elected officials participate in the vote on the home rule sales tax. Since one Trustee was going to be absent from the March 23 meeting, Village President Vicky Hase publicly asked Trustees at the workshop meeting of March 16 if they were available for a March 30 meeting. All trustees present indicated they were available.

The Village Manager communicated with Trustee Ladesic who was out of town for the March 16th meeting. The trustee responded via email on Monday, March 16 that “as far as I know right now that date looks good.”

On March 17 the meeting was officially rescheduled to March 30 based on input from all trustees. Subsequent notifications went out to the Glen Ellyn News, Daily Herald, Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce, Glen Ellyn EDC and several interested residents.

On March 19, Trustees Ladesic and Armstrong notified the Village President via email that they were not available for the meeting of March 30. The Village president notified the two Trustees that the meeting was still scheduled for March 30. If the Board determines a sales tax is required, the deadline to file the HRST paperwork to the Illinois Department of Revenue is April 1.
