GEL ELECTION PROFILE: Glen Ellyn Park District Question for Incombents

Question for the Incombents:How did you vote for the new Ackerman Sports Complex that is currently under construction at Ackerman Woods?

Ron Aubrey: I voted in favor of placing this project, along with open space land acquisition and the renovation of the 1920’s era Main Street Rec Center as part of an overall $11.9 million referendum measure on the November 2006 ballot for voter consideration. 6,679 residents voted YES in support of the referendum, while 5,679 were opposed.

Jeffery Jourdan: Just for the record, the Ackerman Sports Complex is being built at Ackerman Park. I voted in favor of this sports complex. The referendum was passed with this capital project on the ballot. The community voted in favor of it. This building will meet the needs of a large majority of our community. We live in a climate that prohibits year round outdoor sports. The community needs more room for basketball, volleyball, dodge ball, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer. The facility will also house other amenities for the entire community.

+++++++++++++++

Keith Schoen: Let me clear the air regarding Ackerman---------there is Ackerman Park not woods, my personal vote as a commissioner was that we needed the complex for soccer, basketball as our availability with school gyms just does not fit the need. This complex is driven by usage that is financially driven, all programs are fee based and there is a good chance we could be partnering with WDSRA. My vote as a referendum question was also yes.

+++++++++++++++

William Taylor: For the record, I voted yes for the new Sports Complex at Ackerman Park along with a majority of residents when the question was put to them via referendum. Most indoor programs provided by the park district have traditionally had to rely upon facilities not under park district control (schools, churches, etc.) and rent space at an additional cost to the district. This also leads to irregular scheduling (non-favorable time slots) of park programs and more importantly the inability of many programs to be attractive to potential participants. It is time that the Glen Ellyn Park District and the Village of Glen Ellyn had a facility in keeping with the stature of this wonderful community which will be used by all ages and social groups.
