Questions specific to incumbents:
Question 1:Over the past four years, describe how your performance and voting record on the Board reflected your 2005 campaign platform as a candidate? What is consistent? What changed and why?
F. Thomas Voltaggio: I have served a total of sixteen years on the Glenbard Board, and during that time I have worked to consistently represent the best interests of our students and the taxpaying public. Four years ago I pledged to work to erase the $24 million deficit the District had accrued. That task was achieved, without the substantial infusion of revenue the District was seeking at the time.
Question 2: What are the biggest issues facing the next Board?
F. Thomas Voltaggio:
a.Maintaining the financial integrity of District 87 in the face of the economic challenges surrounding all of us
b.School improvement/curriculum development in line with programs already underway, including compliance with No Child Left Behind
c.Attracting top flight leadership and teaching talent to Glenbard in light of significant retirements in 2009-2010
Question 3: What specific accomplishments can you point to as a current board member that show your leadership or decision-making qualities?
F. Thomas Voltaggio:I do not feel that it is appropriate to talk about individual achievements in the context of a team like a school board. I am comfortable in addressing the collective accomplishments of our board over the past four years. During that time we have hired complete central office and building level management teams, erased the District’s accumulated budget deficit, increased graduation requirements, and instituted major school restructuring. Most importantly, however, we have reduced anxiety levels present in the community and have restored public confidence in the ability of District 87 to serve its community and students.
