One of the two Glenbard West High School football players injured in a car crash in Glen Ellyn last week died Thursday from his injuries.

Seventeen-year-old Pierre Washington-Steel was the driver of the 2008 Ford Fusion that crashed into a utility pole on Swift Road in Glen Ellyn Friday evening. He died at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Thursday morning.

Demarco Whitley, a junior, a passenger with Washington-Steel had to be pulled from the vehicle and remains in serious condition.

Two Glenbard West High School students were clinging to life in critical condition late Sunday following a Friday night crash.

Senior Pierre Washington-Steel and junior Demarco Whitley, both running backs on the football team, were seriously injured in a one-car crash just before 8 p.m. Friday on Swift Road north of St. Charles Road in Glen Ellyn.
